OIL AND GAS POLLUTION.
The truth is that the exploitation of Oil and Gas (being greenhouse gases) poses numerous environmental problems chief amongst which is pollution.
Encarta Dictionary defines pollution as the contamination of Earth’s environment with materials that interfere with human health, quality of life or natural functioning of ecosystems. Oil and gas pollution is the contamination of the Earth’s Environment with Petroleum substances.
Nigeria was not preoccupied with oil and gas pollution issues until the late 20th century. Issues like the Ogoni Nile issue, the Ken Saro Wiwa execution, and flagrant disregard for the environment began to put Nigeria in the international limelight from the 90s.
